PATIENTS EMPOWERMENT

Our generation is blessed because of the information superhighway, and patients should never fail to avail
themselves of this priviledge. Your sickness and health affects everybody around you hence you have to
be steadfast in working towards your health and seeking to manage your sickness.
Here is my advise:

You must listen to your body, always.

Seek medical attention whenever you feel something is not right, there is nothing like wasting 'time and
money' on your health.

If you are 'feeling healthy' still have a medical check up once a year.

When you go to the doctor, or your health care provider, be relaxed but conscious of what you
share with him or her. Be completely honest and be aware of the following:

You must know yourself better than any one else, so know you medical history , remember everything
doctors may have alerted you in the past about your health, including family history of chronic illnesses.

Write down things that you could easily forget like dates, list of meds you took, or currently taking.
Any allergies or reaction to chemicals and insect sting in the past are very powerful information that can be
of help to your doctor.

On your consultation with the doctor, relax, and be your doctors partner, and demand the
following information albeit courtiously:

Always find out what the doctor thinks you have, even if he has not made a definitive diagnosis.

What are the treatment options outside what he is giving you , and what are their side effects.

What happens if I do not take my medications.

Any interactions with my other meds or food, what do I expect.

Always seek second opinion if you are not satisfied, and of course the information superhighway is open
24/7

IN jamaica, we at www.drobieleweanya.com remain a useful tool to start with, and we can link you to any
information you require about YOUR HEALTH, this is our motivation.
